Community Input Sought on Glen Earrach Energy’s Community Benefit Fund

Updated: Mar 21

  • Complete our community benefit fund online survey – focused on community priorities, fund structure and management, and long-term distribution here by 18th April

  • Join us in Drumnadrochit for Glen Earrach Energy’s next community drop-in event on Thursday 03 April from 16:00 – 20:00 at the Craigmonie Centre (Glen Urquhart High School), IV63 6XA

As both the landowner and developer, we are committed to ensuring that local communities directly benefit from the project. Glen Earrach Energy’s Community Benefit Fund will reflect the scale of the development, which has the potential to store 30GWh of clean energy, and could provide over £20 million annually. This consultation aims to gather views on how the Community Benefit Fund should be structured, managed, and allocated to reflect local priorities and ensure transparency and accountability.

We recognise that this fund cannot address every local challenge, but we want to ensure it has the greatest positive impact by prioritising what matters most. The Community Benefit Fund will evolve over time, and this consultation is just the first step in shaping how it can benefit local people.

We have aligned this consultation with Scotland’s National Performance Framework, ensuring that funding themes support broader national priorities for wellbeing, sustainability, and economic prosperity.

This consultation seeks feedback on:

  • Key funding themes– identifying broad areas that are currently a priority to local communities.

  • Fund distribution – how the fund should be allocated across different scales (e.g. IV63, wider Loch Ness, Highland region) and through different models (e.g. grants, strategic investments, long-term funding mechanisms).

  • Decision-making process – how communities closest to the project can have a meaningful say in fund management and governance.

How to Take Part

The consultation is now live, and local residents, businesses, and community organisations are encouraged to take part by:

Next Steps

We will propose a community benefit package plan based on the feedback and insights gathered throughout our ongoing engagement process, including this consultation.

By working together, we can create a lasting positive impact for the community.
